From living soil,
to the glass.
Faithful to the Berru terroir, Emmanuel Cosnard combines typicity with exacting viticulture: a smaller carbon footprint, no chemical inputs, and the absolute priority of grape quality. The promise of the wine is born at harvest.
Four generations
on the slopes
of the Mont de Berru.
Heritage
Set on the Mont de Berru, our 2.30-hectare vineyard is devoted entirely to Chardonnay. Planted in 1935 by our forebears, it carries on a winegrowing tradition passed down with passion from generation to generation. Since 1962, working with the Berru cooperative has strengthened the bond with this exceptional terroir.
Estate
Since 1965, the oldest vines of this still-productive estate have borne witness to a heritage handed down over four generations. Today the property counts ten parcels, each bearing an evocative name that reflects its terroir: les Chauds Soleils, les Bellois, le Chemin de Courot, les Varpillères, la Tournelle du Reux…
Reflection
Our vineyard is run by a single philosophy: minimise the carbon footprint, reduce chemical inputs and favour grape quality. This vision translates into targeted interventions, with manual work at its heart: controlled pruning, rigorous trellising, shoot weaving, shoot trimming.
Practice
From 2001, when the Emmanuel COSNARD estate was founded, we began reflecting on biodiversity. In 2005 insecticides disappeared from our practices, followed in 2008 by herbicides. We officially began our conversion in 2016. Since 2021, after two decades of commitment, we are certified organic.
Organic
It is at harvest, through the very quality of the grapes, that a wine's potential is decided. The intrinsic quality of the berries depends on the viticulture that precedes vinification. Driven by this conviction and by respect for the terroir, Emmanuel Cosnard has chosen to unite the typicity of Berru with an exacting, forward-looking way of farming.
